Sustainability
commitment towards a sustainable
operation is to limit our activities to an extent that does not threaten the
freedom and possibilities for future generations. This
commitment influences the operation at Unger in several ways:
- In accordance with principles of sustainable development, we produce surfactants
that have a minimal impact on the environment.
- The majority of our raw materials originates from plants. Coconut oil is the
primary source for fatty alcohols and etoxylated fatty alcohols we use in our surfactant
production. The finished products are completely biodegradable, and can
therefore be regarded as renewable in the life cycle. Our production of such
surfactants is growing steadily.
- Our product range is dominated by
highly concentrated dry surfactants. This substantially reduces the environmental
impact because we transport mainly active ingredient to the customer, and not
any dilutants/solvents. Thus limiting the use of non-renewable fossil resources.
- We continuously monitor our effluents
to the waste water system, the release of sulphur dioxide to air as well as the
amount of material delivered to the local waste treatment plant. We continuously
work to reduce these numbers in close collaboration with Norwegian environmental
authorities.
